Civil Rights of Jews in Britain – Phillip Carteret Webb – London, 1753
The Question whether a Jew born within the British Dominions was, before the Making the Late Act of Parliament, a Person Capable by Law to Purchase and Hold Lands to Him and His Heirs, [by Phillip Carteret Webb]. Printed for J. Roberts, London, 1753. English.
In 1753 the British Parliament legislated the law of naturalization named "The Jews Law" permitting Jews to be naturalized in Britain. This composition deals with the question whether prior to the legislation of the above law Jews were permitted to hold lands and studies the history of the rights granted to Jews in Britain until the date of publication of this composition. The author notes the law permitting Jews who lived for seven years in British colonies in America to be naturalized. The "Jews Law" was met by opposition and was cancelled in 1753.
