Speech of Moshe Smoira, first president of the Israel Supreme Court, at the opening ceremony of the Supreme Court in Jerusalem on September 14, 1948.
6 typewritten leaves containing the full speech. Smoira spoke of the importance of the inauguration of the court and especially in the city of Jerusalem. He expounded upon the mission of the judicial system according to Jewish law, the separation of the various authorities and the task of the Supreme Court in relation to this separation, the relationship between the judges and the attorneys, etc.
6 leaves, size varies. Average size: 27.5 cm. Good condition. Folds to corners and margins. Few stains.
Enclosed is a handwritten leaf with the prayer "Hineni HeAni MiMa'as" (Behold, I am here impoverished in deeds) which the cantor chants on Yom Kippur. Smoira refers to this prayer in his speech, requesting that the judges do not misappropriate their authority as public emissaries.
