Migdal David: Beautiful Manuscript, Sadigura 1865

A Kabbalistic commentary on Shir Hashirim titled Migdal David from the holy Kabbalist Rabbi David ben Shlomo Avi Zimra, better known as the Ridbaz.

Written with artistic scribal handwriting in Sadigura, 1865, it is laid out in two columns with an architectural title page illustrated in red and black ink.

The colophon states that it was completed on Friday, the 7th of Shvat, 1863, by Rabbi Shmuel and Rabbi Shual ben Rachel.

There is a signature on the page prior to the title page which states: This sefer Migdal David belongs to Nachum Duber Friedman.

On the inside of the binding there is a red ex libris from his library with gold lettering. There are also two stamps from him on the title page; one with his name and an illustration of a lion, and another one marking that the sefer had been received as a gift.

Rabbi Nachum Duber Friedman (1843 - 1883) was the son of Rabbi Shalom Yosef of Ruzhin and son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov of Sadigura. He was learned both in matters of Torah and Chassidus and possessed one of the most prestigious libraries of his time; including rare sefarim and manuscripts.

The Yad Yehuda of Sadigura writes: " And when I came here to the city of Sadigura, I found what I was longing for in the home of my relative Rabbi Nachum Dov, who has a collection of valuable sefarim from early authors unlike any other…"
