Letter from Rabbi Abba Grossbard, First Mashgiach of Ponovizh Yeshivah
A letter from Rabbi Avraham Abba Grossbard to Rabbi Binyamin Mendelson, rabbi of Kiryas Attah.
In this 1942 letter sent from Petach Tikvah, he urges Rabbi Mendelson to open a yeshivah in Kiryat Attah in order to bring the youth of the city closer to Yiddishkeit. He suggests Rabbi Reuben Gershonovitz, (father in law of Reb Mechil Yehuda Lefkowitz), for the position of Ram of the yeshivah.
Rabbi Abba Grossbard (1890 - 1946) was a student of the Slabodka, Radin and Mir yeshivos and a close disciple of Rabbi Yerucham Levovitz of Mir. In the year 1938 he was called upon by Rabbi Reuven Katz to come and serve as menahel ruchani of the yeshivah gedolah in Petach Tikva. He passed away at the young age of fifty three. His Torah thoughts were compiled in the two parts of sefer Mibeis Abba.
