 1. Ost und West - Collection of 5 Periodicals: April-Brillin, August 1914 (4-8). Situations are reasonable: covers are detached, yellowing to pages, stains, wear. * Ost und West (in German: "East and West") was a Zionist periodical for Jewish culture and Jewish wisdom. The journal was published in Berlin in 1901 to 1923. The spirit of the journal was formulated by Martin Buber who advocated presenting Judaism as a culture rather than as a religion. And a culture rooted in the East, the Semitic East, the Asian-Muslim, in the spirit of orientalism that saw the East, and in particular the Land of Israel in a romantic spirit and Eastern Europe, where a vibrant Jewish culture thrives. Its founder and editor was Davis Trietsch and his deputy was Arthur Silberglite. The journal appeared until August 1914 as a monthly publication. The journal combined works of art, mainly Art Nouveau engravings (mainly by Ephraim Moshe Lilien) with artistic and critical writing. Among the writers in the magazine were Buber, Ludwig Geiger, Max Nordau, Alfred Nussig, Joseph Halevy, Israel Levy, David Zvi Miller, Fabius Schach, Abraham Epstein, Adolf Rosenzweig. The language of the journal was German, and for the first time in this language it was translated from Yiddish. In addition, the non-Jewish poet Bries von Munchausen, who later became a Nazi, published his poems. 2.
