Sabbath Candlestick of the Rebbe of Jikov Rabbi Yehuda Horowitz / a Knife for Cutting Apples during the Tish on Sabbath
A. A glass candlestick for lighting the Sabbath candle which belonged to the Rebbe Rabbi Yehuda Horowitz of Jikov.
Attached is confirmation by the granddaughter of the Rebbe's brother, who writes:
"I faithfully attests that this glass candlestick … was bequeathed to me by Rabbi Yehuda'le Horowitz of Jikov who lived in Jerusalem and in his old age in London, and who was my garndfather's brother, the only one who had survived the Holocaust. I received this candlestick from him and he used to light the Sabbath candle in it each and every Sabbath".
Height: 17 cm. Width: 8 cm.
Strong, massive candlestick. A flaw on its upper part.
B. A knife with which the Rebbe used to cut apples during the Tish on Sabbath (Silver handle).
16.5 cm.

The Rebbe Rabbi Yehuda Horowitz of Jikov (1905-1989) was a great Torah scholar. He was born to his father Rabbi Alter Yechezkel Eliyahu of Jikov. In his childhood, he was educated in the house of his grandfather Rabbi Yisrael of Vizhnitz who lived in Grosswardein. There he lived until the Holocaust. He escaped the city a short while before its Jews were sent to Auschwitz and found refuge in Romania, until he immigrated to the Land of Israel.
He lived in Jerusalem and refused to become the leader of the Hassidic dynasty despite his being the only son of the last Rebbe of Jikov and despite the persistent pleadings of his Hassidim and relatives.
In his old age, he moved to London, where he took upon himself to live in silence. He gave the money of his dowry to Rabbi Yosef Naftali Stern for the printing of the books by the Chatam Sofer, since he used to say that "The Chatam Sofer has won me over" and that "the Chatam Sofer was one of a kind".
Several books describing his personality and customs were published a short while after his death as well as books by him on Halacha and Aggadah, especially glosses he had written on copies of his books.
