Rare book on the issue of Agunos, women who lost their husbands during WWII, by R. Tzvi Hirsch Meisels, the Vietzener Rav.
In the aftermath of the Holocaust, one of the most pressing and difficult concerns was the tragic plight of the women whose husbands disappeared in the horrors of the Holocaust. The unprecedented circumstances were tackled by many of the greatest surviving rabbinical figures of the era who devoted their best efforts to solving these complex and heart-wrenching halachic queries. The laws of Agunos are one of the most complicated in Talmudic law and require gathering testimony from persons who had witnessed the death of the missing husband.
R. Tzvi Hirsch Meisels (1902-1974) served as Dayan in Vietzen and miraculously survived the Holocaust. His gripping account is recorded in great detail in the introduction to his famous work Mekadshei Hashem. In 1947 he immigrated to Chicago where he served as Rav of the She’aris Yisrael shul and established various important institutions.
