Non-traditional haggada. Kibbutz Beit Zera. 1940

Illustrated, non-traditional haggad with many original texts.

Includes various texts that discuss the Holocaust in current terms: "the front grows longer to infinity, that the thunder of the tool of destruction silences the voice of the working person...with thunder they plant death and destruction on the dry land and the seas are quieted, the voice of the human conscience has been repressed...the instincts of murder and torture...there is no judgement or judge! Many of are the victims...."

It also refers to the illegal immigrant ships trying to reach Palestine that was closed before it: "Ships wander in the heart of the sea, because the countries have vomited us. Ships wander in the heart of the sea and there is no shore before them, there is no goal and no hope. The ships wander in the heart of the sea and water surrounds them like a wall, an iron wall of the cruelty of humankind! There is no refuge!...."

Includes a passage referring to the Arab enemy: "In addition, many blows have befallen us, and many plot to detach us from our life on this land, know that the profound affinity for it, to this land, every clod of dirt every corner of the homeland - is the source of our strength, the source of our sustainability in the face of those who come up against us..." additional texts encourage agricultural work and more.

Additionally includes texts copied from various authors - such as a quote from The Peasants by Reymont, a ballad from Chaim Lensky regarding working the land, passages from B. Tennenbaum, Berner, Yaakov Cohen, Bialik and more.

Rare Haggada. Not in Steiner's list of kibbutz haggadot and not in the National Library.

[1] 11 leaves. 34 cm. Front and back cover of the haggada are reinforced with paper. Tear to the corner of the first and last page, without affecting text. Fold marks. Fine condition.
