ROLAND JEAN MARIE: (1734-1793) Vicount of la Platière. French Manufacturer, Leader of the Girondists during the French Revolution, largely influenced by his wife Marie-Jeanne Roland de la Platière. Roland, in his capacity as interior Minister responds to a request of funds for the repair of few damaged roads, suggesting to split the cost over three years. Small overall, minor age wear. G £80-100 Jean Marie Roland de la Platière escaped from being guillotined, but when he learned that his spouse was executed he committed suicide. Marie-Jeanne Roland (1754-1793) born Marie-Jeanne Phlippon, also known as Jeanne ''Manon'' Roland was an influent member of the Girondist faction. She fell out of favour during the Reign of Terror and died on the guillotine.
