This work originated in the belief that a volume depicting the religious and domestic life of Isaac Penington, William Penn, and Thomas Ellwood would be especially useful at present. Their lives were bright examples of the ennobling and strengthening influence of true religion. This book celebrates exemplary Quaker lives, it is an impressive piece of scholarship. The book is a testament to the intimate social networks of early Quakerism which linked Fox, Nayler, Penn, Fell, and Burrough. The book is also the best synthesis available of Isaac and Mary Peningtons lives from about 1658.
