Kellin R. Shmuel/Machzitz Ha’Shekel. Tzror Ha’Mor, Venice 1567/ Derashos Ha’Torah, Padua 1567.
With signature of R. Shmuel Ha’Levy Kellin.
Tzror Ha’Mor, classic Kabbalistic commentary on the weekly torah portions by R. Avrohom Saba.
Derashos Ha’Torah, sermons on the weekly torah portions by R. Shem Tov. With many references to the earlier commentators including Rashi, Ramban, Ralbag and Ibn Ezra.
R. Shmuel Ha’Levy Kellin (1724-1806) was born into a distinguished family in the town of Kollin, Bohemia. At a young age he was sent to learn in the great yeshiva of Boskowitz, where he remained for the rest of his life. Eventually he was appointed as Rosh Yeshiva, teaching thousands of disciples over his lifetime. He chose to remain in the Yeshiva of Boskowitz, turning down several prominent positions, including the rabbinate of Prague and Pressburg. In addition to his great scholarship he was known to lead an ascetic life, frequently fasting and studying incessantly. Renowned for his fervent prayers he was a great Tsaddik to whom many flocked in their time of need. His Magnum Opus, Machzitz Ha’Shekel remains one of the classic commentaries on the Shulchan Oruch and is printed in almost every edition.
