Sportsman - Fowler Cast Iron Bank
Made by J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Connecticut - Circa 1892. The Fowler Bank is the rarest model from the subset of banks known as "shooters". Few of them retain the original bird as this one does. Whereas most of the shooter banks have relatively simple mechanisms, the engineering for the Fowler Bank is nothing short of astonishing. Place a coin in the slot and set the catapult on the small elevated platform. Then place the bird in position and push the lever inwards. The marksman pivots on his heels to take aim as the bird flies upwards. In the same moment, an exploding cap placed in the rifle barrel explodes and the bird falls to the ground.
