899 - Seeing New York - Rare Comic Character Toy
By the Kenton Hardware Company. Kenton, Ohio - Early 1910's - 10" Long. Like an elongated dray with benches, this form of automotive sightseeing vehicle was known in French nomenclature as a charabanc. Here we find several of the most prominent comic characters from the early 20th century, including Mama Katzenjammer, the Captain, Happy Hooligan and Gloomy Gus. Kenton produced a mate to this toy known as "899 - Sight Seeing Auto". It is also peopled by the same gang of five figures.
