Extraordinary Painted Home Bank
Made by J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Ct. - 1880 - 5 1/4" Tall. Illustrated as #223-D on Page 169. From the Donal Markey Collection. Years ago, while examining a group of brightly painted banks in mint condition, Oliver Clark brilliantly declared "get out your sunglasses". Never could such a statement be more aptly applied than to this stunning example of the Home Bank. Six different colors are harmoniously used for the decoration of this bank: brown, tan, green, red, yellow and black. The paint is very thick and scarcely chipped. This was one of Don Markey's most favorite still banks.
