Although Hagiz was the catalytic force behind a series of polemics involving Nechemiah Hayun, the Ramcha’l and others, this digest of halachic responsa “gained him more enduring renown in Rabbinic literature than any other” (E. Carlebach, Pursuit of Heresy, p. 64). Its popularity is evident in the fact that it was subsequently published at the back of many later editions of the Shulchan Aruch.
