BUCHENWALD CONCENTRATION CAMP POSTCARDS (2)
Pair of postcards sent from KL Buchenwald in Weimar, Germany by Czech political prisoner Vaclav 'Wenzel' Lane to his wife Pilsen, Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. What makes them unusual is the use of informal postcards rather than the standard camp mail. This meant that he mailed them with help from an outsider, nevertheless, he still writes his prisoner number 5406 in Block 48. Two cards dated 4.5.1941 and 27.7.1941, he thanks his family for sending letters, money, and care packages, mentions that he worries about his family at home, inquiries about the well-being of friends. Vaclav Lane, a teacher, was arrested in September of 1939, along with other Czech nationals, after being deemed an enemy of the Reich. He would be incarcerated for five and a half years. He died shortly before the liberation of Buchenwald at the age of 57. Two pieces.
