A RUSSIAN ETCHING TREE BY DMITRY KRASNOPEVTSEV
Dmitry Krasnopevtsev (Russian, 1925-1995) etching of a tree. Signed on the plate lower left. Estate of Giovanni and Dagmar Migliuolo, NYC. Giovanni Migliuolo was the former Italian Ambassador to the United Nations, USSR, and Egypt as written on the paper mounted on the back. Framed. Dmitry Krasnopevtsev is an outstanding Russian artist who belongs to the generation of the Moscow avant-garde. His early etchings and paintings are melancholy and romantic. In the late 1950s-1960s, the “metaphysical still-life” became his major genre, combining traditions of symbolism and surrealism with simplicity: broken ceramic utensils, dried plants, and seashells. These “skulls of objects-things” are perceived as “poetic symbols of transitoriness” reminding us that the world around us is unreal.
Dimensions: Framed 16 1/4" x 13 3/8" in. Plate 7 3/4" x 6 1/4" in. All measurements are approximate
