Syrian Qalamadan. Inkwell and matching case, 19th century
Length: 20 cm. Width: 4 cm. Height: 2.5 cm.
Syrian qalamadan [Islamic pen case] decorated with gold. Device including an inkwell for a scribe's ink and case for writing implements. The front of the qalamadan has various calligraphy letters in Arabic, made with delicate sawing work. Gold decorations on text. Gold border around text. Both sides of the qalmadan are decorated with gilt circular, curvy designs. The interior is padded with maroon colored velvet material.
Very fine condition.
