TIRPITZ OIL-SOAKED MANUAL PAGE
An oil-soaked relic recovered from the German battleship Tirpitz. The typed page, approx. 5.75 x 8.25 inches, has entirely darkened from being soaked in oil, but is still somewhat legible. The Tirpitz was sunk by Royal Air Force bombers on 12 November 1944. The wreck of Tirpitz remained in place until after the war, when a joint German-Norwegian company began salvage operations. Work lasted from 1948 until 1957; fragments of the ship were sold by a Norwegian company and pieces were picked up by collectors around the world.
