The Admo"r Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum of Satmar [1914-2006] was born in Sighet, Romania, to his father, the author of Atzei Chaim of Sighet. On his mother's side, he was a great-grandson of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz and a descendant of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Rabbi Moshe was a disciple of his great uncle, the Admo"r Rabbi Yoelish of Satmar. He served as Av Beis Din in Hungary - in Senta and in Sighet. During the Holocaust, he was sent to Auschwitz with his entire family, and his wife and three children were murdered there. After the Holocaust, he immigrated to the United States. After the Admo"r of Satmar's passing (without children among the living), Rabbi Moshe was appointed his heir and successor - he was crowned the respected leader of Satmar Chassidim, and he brought the Chassidus to its peak. He also served as the president of the Edah Charedis in the Land of Israel.
