RUSSIAN ORTHODOX ICON MOTHER OF GOD WITH CANDLE
Antique Russian Orthodox hand-painted icon of Mother Of God - Vratarnitsa Uglichskaya (Inextinguishable Candle) depicting as a nun with staff and rosary in her left hand and a candle in her right hand. Mixed technique: levkas, egg tempera, gilding, enamel. The text on the icon in the Cyrillic from the Akathist to the Dormition of the Theotokos: Rejoice, the inextinguishable candle of the immaterial fire. Circa: the late 19th century - early 20th century.
