Or Torah is the first “finger” of Shtei Yadot (Two Hands), Venice, 1618, by Rabbi Menachem di Lunzano. With Likutei Michtav Me’Eliyahu, by Rabbi Eliyahu the son of Rabbi Ezriel of Vilna, Hamburg 1739.
“The earth belongs to Hashem, and everything in it, signed, the insignificant Yaakov Shemesh, 1756.” The leaves of the book have glosses and an additional signature in the handwriting of Rabbi Yaakov Shemesh.
The Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Shemesh (died 1785) was one of the greatest Torah scholars of Frankfurt am Main and served as the head of the Beit Din of the Beit Midrash Hagadol in that city. He was one of the mentors of the Chatam Sofer when the latter was a young man, and is mentioned in his writings as “Mori v’Rabi” (my teacher and rabbi).
