Includes original letter from Taft to American sculptor Rudolf Evans dated April 20, 1923, typed on letterhead stationary from "The Midway Studios, " that states in part "I am trying to bring my History of American Sculpture up to date. Will you not kindly send me at once a list of your more important works with dates and locations, also date and place of birth. I must finish my job before sailing for Europe early June." Below signature of Lorado Taft is a pencil notation "Ans. 4/23/23"

Lorado Zadok Taft (April 29, 1860, in Elmwood, Illinois – October 30, 1936, in Chicago) was an American sculptor, writer and educator. His 1903 book, The History of American Sculpture, was the first survey of the subject and stood for decades as the standard reference. He has been credited with helping to advance the status of women as sculptors. Taft was the father of U.S. Representative Emily Taft Douglas, father-in-law to her husband, U.S. Senator Paul Douglas, and a distant relative of U.S. President William Howard Taft.
