Handwritten responsum by Harav Aharon Yehoshua Tzvi Weinberger, Av Beis Din of Margareten and author of Shu”t Mahariatz, to Harav Shlomo Zalman Ulman — Av Beis Din of Makov and author of Yerios Shlomo.

Harav Aharon Yehoshua Tzvi Weinberger (1815-1894) was Av Beis Din of Margareten, Austria. Praised as “Sar HaTorah. Righteous and exalted” by the Darchei Teshuvah, he was renowned from his early youth for his exceptional piety and spiritual greatness. He was a close disciple of the Chasam Sofer who described him as “Replete with Gemara and svara” and foretold that he was destined for greatness, as inscribed in his approbation to Shu”t Mahariatz. For several years, Harav Aharon Yehoshua Tzvi learned together with the Chasam Sofer’s son, the Ksav Sofer, and he subsequently served as Rav and Av Beis Din of Margareten until his passing in 1894. His published works include Shu”t Mahariatz and Likutei Mahariatz.

[2] large leaves measuring 40x25cm. The Mahariatz’s handwritten response appears on the first side, and the response of Rabbi Mordechai (Mottel) Segal, a disciple of the Yerios Shlomo, appears on verso. Slight tear with missing text and tear marks on fold, all professionally restored.
