Oil on canvas(mounted on masonite), "Landscape with Figures Near Ipswitch in Suffolk " Information on the back cross bars corresponds with the name of the buyer and title of a paintng in a 1799 Christie's sale catalogue. The title of the picture on the back cross bar is "Landscape Scene from Nature", mentioned on Item 124 of the sale. The painting was purchased by a Mr. Walton who is mentioned. Water and sandy foreground precede the figures and house in background of this landscape scene. Typical of Gainsborough's Dutch period. The scene is a definitive wooded scene across a creek with house and figures at the background. A copy of the 1799 sale at Christies is included in the lot. (Obtained from Christie's Archives, London.) Painting is sold as attributed to and in the manner of Thomas Gainsborough.
