Divrei Shmuel by Harav Shmelke of Nikolsburg. First Edition! Lemberg, 1862.
Marvelous commentary on the Torah including novellae on Shas, Shulchan Aruch, and responsa by Harav Shmuel Shmelke Halevi Horowitz, Av Beis Din of Nikolsburg.
Printed based on a handwritten manuscript that belonged to his disciple the Kozhnitzer Maggid.
The beginning of the sefer features a section entitled “good customs and the path of righteous” that one should endeavor to emulate and model for others.
Harav Shmelke of Nikolsburg (1726-1778) was among the early righteous Chassidic sages. A disciple of the Maggid of Mezritch, he would travel along with his eminent brother the Baal Hafla’ah to seek the Maggid’s wisdom. His own disciples include the great Chassidic masters Harav Moshe Leib of Sassov, Harav Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, the Kozhnitzer Maggid, the Chozeh of Lublin, Harav Menachem Mendel of Riminov, and others.
