JEAN-BAPTISTE BERNADOTTE
CHARLES XIV JEAN BERNADOTTE (1764 - 1844) King of Sweden and Norway, a former French Marshal who allied with Czar Alexander to battle Napoleon and aided in the victory at Liepzig. A.E.S. 'J. N. Bernadotte' penned in the margin of a letter sent by Lt. Francois Redier to Minister of War Lazare Carnot, 2pp. large 4to., Brest, 1807, apparently requesting a promotion to captain for his services already rendered the nation. On the left margin of the first page, Bernadotte pens a 11-line endorsement asking that the man's request be granted. Old mounting traces in the corners on verso, else fine.
