AUGUSTE DE MARMONT
(1774 – 1852) French Marshal, awarded the title Duke of Ragusa. In the Peninsular War Marmont succeeded the disgraced André Massena in the command of the French army in northern Spain, but lost decisively at the Battle of Salamanca. D.S. as the Duc de Raguse, 1p. 12mo., Paris, May 1, 1830 acknowledging the receipt of a sum of money. Marginal pencil notes, one corner a bit rough, else very good.
