PIERRE DE RUEL, MARQUIE DE BEURNONVILLE
(1752 - 1821) French general during the French Revolutionary Wars and later a marshal of France. He took an active part in the battles of Valmy and Jemmapes, and served as Minister of War after he denounced his old commander, Charles François Dumouriez, to the Convention. Napoleon made him a senator and count of the empire. Fine association L.S. with impressive vignette at top. 1p. legal folio, Mulheim, Sep. 27, 1796, a pass through the lines issued to his chief of staff General Ernouf: '...with his box of ammunition and cart for his servants drawn by his horses and a hay wagon...'. With red wax seal at bottom. Near fine.
