LUFTWAFFE GENERAL'S SUMMER VISOR
Rare Luftwaffe General's Summer Visor in excellent condition. The visor top is constructed of light white cotton, detachable, with a black horizontally ribbed and interwoven center band piped with gold wire at top and bottom. At front is a hand embroidered general's cap eagle in gold bullion wire threads with gold rayon accents on a summer white wool base. It bears snaps on the reverse allowing the insignia to be removed when the top was laundered. Below the eagle is a stitched-on hand-embroidered Luftwaffe winged wreath and cockade on a black wool base. Beneath the wreath is the gold interwoven bullion chin cord which is attached at the sides with two gilded tombak pebbled buttons. The black lacquered visor remains in excellent condition, and is reinforced along its front edge. Within, the cap bears a leather sweatband, a bit dried and chipped at the rear. The cap stiffener is broken, otherwise this is one of the best examples extant.
