ADOLF HITLER GERMAN PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS (14)
Fine lot of 14 press photographs of Adolf Hitler, all 5 x 7 in. b/w, 11 of which are credited to the studio of Heinrich Hoffmann, with many bearing captions. According to our consignor, these photos were discovered at the courthouse in Nuremberg during the construction of the courtroom, by his father ROBERT G. STEPHENS, JR. (1913-2003). Stephens served on the staff of Robert H. Jackson, the U.S. Supreme Court Justice that served as the chief prosecutor for the United States during the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Stephens had lived in Germany prior to the outbreak of the war, and later served in the O.S.S. under William J. Donovan. Images show Hitler with Goring, Speer, Raeder, Keitel, Rosenberg, Lammers, Donitz, Mussolini, Hess, and others, and at the Berghof. All bear file holes at one edge, some bear marginal ink notes identifying the individuals pictured. Good possibility these were used in researching charges levied against the major war criminals.
