KARL-FRIEDRICH MERTEN
(1905 - 1993) German U-boat commander during World War II, credited with the sinking of 27 ships for a total of 170,151 gross register tons. Awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves. Large dealer's lot of 13 signed items, includes: a postcard inscribed signed photo showing him in uniform, adding 'U-68'; a group of nine T.L.S.s, each 1p., various sizes, Waldshut, 1985-91, all in German to an American collector, not translated but apparently friendly content mentioning the anniversary of the war's end, politics, family news, autographs, etc.; two signed Christmas card; and a signature on a very small card. All very good to fine.
