DIETRICH VON SAUCKEN
(1892 - 1980) German general, commander of the 2nd Army as it was pushed into Latvia, the last to receive the Diamonds, from Donitz as Chief of State. Good content A.L.S. in German, 2pp. 8vo., Munich, Nov. 2, 1959, a letter to a researcher. In part: '...I have nothing against Fraschka’s book...I welcome your article series about personalities that have shown their braveness in this war. However, I cannot give you any more information about my person than what is already in Mr. Fraschka’s book. I have nothing against you mentioning me...But I’m sure you will understand that I don’t want to boost my own 'heroization', because I just did my duty as a soldier...I do not have any documents or memorabilia, or any orders and such...I have lost my apartment in Berlin including everything in it...I am very sorry that I cannot help you any better even though I am very interested in your work...' Signed in full at the conclusion. Fine. Sold with two photographs.
