CHARLES W. LINDBERG
(1920 - 2007) U.S. Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the battle of Iwo Jima. S.P., 8 x 10 in. b/w, a contemporary reprint of Lindberg and his comrades who raised the first flag atop Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima, signed in full and adding: '1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima'. Fine. Of the 40 men in Lindberg’s platoon who mounted Suribachi, 36 would be killed or wounded in action for the island would be secured.
