Central Committee Jews in Poland. Fighting Palestine !
Central Committee of Jews in Poland. Commission to Aid the Fighting Palestine donation 500PLN - 1948. The Central Committee of Jews in Poland (in Polish, Centralny Komitet Żydów w Polsce — CKŻP) was founded on November 12, 1944 to assist Polish Jews in the aftermath of the Nazi devastation. The Committee registered the surviving Polish Jews and helped in the prosecution of Nazi war criminals. It also aided the repatriation of more than 100,000 refugees returning from the Soviet Union. In the aftermath of the war, the Polish government supported the idea of creating a hierarchy of Jewish committees, with government funds for Jewish welfare distributed to local committees by the central committee.CKŻP provided food, shelter, education, medicine, a host of cultural activities, and oversaw a self-defense organization. Devoted to restarting Jewish cultural life, CKŻP organized activities, sponsored Yiddish radio broadcasts, and published books celebrating Jewish life.In addition to organizing the He-Haluts movement, the largely Zionist CKŻP worked towards crafting the agreement with the Polish government in July 1946, allowing masses of Jews to emigrate. In October 1950, the Committee was merged with the Jewish Association for Culture and Art to form the Jewish Social-Cultural Association in Poland (TSKŻ).
