Large 17th c. or Earlier Continental Finely Carved / Sculpted Wood Alter Panel Fragment Depicting the Nativity in a Medieval Landscape / Background | The remarkably detailed panel is very finely carved and engraved with a high level of craftsmanship, likely a commissioned piece. This piece of Christian Iconography has gold gilt detailing and foreground in high relief, on the gesso hardwood support, with what appears to be an early mortise-and-tenon type of joint on each end | Verso appears to have a lot, museum or collector's number | Approx. Dimensions: 28.75'' H x 15.75'' W | Very good considering age and use, with usual paint loss and damage.
