Original binding, reinforced spine. Of particular interest is that on page 138 of Part Two, the Tzemach Tzedek writes regarding a certain proof brought by the Vilna Gaon, “that I in my lowliness was not fortunate to comprehend his hallowed words”. In the edition published by Kehot in 1949 these words do not appear, instead replaced with “this is not a proof”. Following its publication, R. Yitzchok Hutner is said to have penned a letter of protest, to which the publishers replied that the original version was not authentic but had been inserted by the printers in Vilna, a stronghold of the Gaon’s followers.
