אברהם שפירא (1870 –1965) היה ראש "אגודת השומרים". שפירא היה פעיל בהגנת המושבה עוד משחר נעוריו. בצעירותו אף שימש כמלווה לברון רוטשילד. בשנת 1890 מונה לראש השומרים. במהלך מלחמת העולם הראשונה, נבחר ליושב-ראש ועד המושבה. פעילותו כיושב ראש הוועד נקטעה כאשר נעצר בחשד לחברות בארגון ניל"י. לאחר שהועמד לדין בדמשק וזוכה, שב לפתח תקווה ונבחר שוב להיות ראש "אגודת השומרים"
