KL GROSS-ROSEN - GROUND DUG ENGRAVED OBER CAPO KNIFE!
One of the highlights of our Autumn Auction this 2020 is this very rare and creepy item that belonged to one of the Ober capos of the KL Gross-Rosen.

This knife, ground dug in the camp area years ago, is hand engraved in this camp for one of the capos in a subcamp of KL Gross-Rosen.

We can read on the grips: T. Schulz Ober Capo. A.L. Landeshut (Arbeitslager Landeshut). This was a subcamp of KL Gross-Rosen.
On the other side we can see a red winkel or triangle with a "P" inside, telling the nationality of this man, who was Polish political prisoner and his camp number 4001.
We can read also 6.2.44, that was probably the date when this man was promoted to Ober Capo, and this knife was a present from his comrades.
Knife has brass grips and although rusted, it's perfectly readable.
It's one of the most impressive items related to concentration camps we have ever had for sale. It's researchable and very interesting museum piece!

Arbeitslager Landeshut (AL) - a branch of the German concentration camp Gross Rosen in Kamienna Góra in Lower Silesia , one of the numerous Gross Rosen sub-camps.Monument dedicated to prisoners murdered in AL LandeshutIt began operating on July 16, 1944. There were prisoners from various European countries, they were: Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Russians, Germans, Belgians, French, Italians, Jews, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Albanians. It was a men's camp. The prisoners mainly performed slave labor for industrial plants in the city and the surrounding area, they were also employed in digging underground caves and tunnels, as well as building military infrastructure.
The function of the camp commandant was performed by:Gross, Helmut Hanke, Hugon Petzner. The sub-camp was dissolved on May 8, 1945. The branch operated for 292 days.

Today in Kamienna Góra, the memory of those who died in the camp is honored. There is a grave at the municipal cemetery, and a monument dedicated to the murdered on the slope of Góra Parkowa.
