(1749 - 1794) French Secretary of the Paris Commune, executed together with Robespierre's accomplices. Partly-printed D.S. 'Mettot', 15 x 19 in., 'Commune de Paris', May 25, 1793, a 'Certificat de Residence' issued by the Convention Nationale. The certificate, issued under a law passed on Mar. 28, 1793 which intended to restrict immigration, pertains to the smal, several block 'Mail' section of the 2nd Arrondisement in central Paris. A man is appointed to certify that the eight reidents listed are not immigrants, and his attestation is in turn certified by Mettot on verso, with about 20 additional signatures of members of the Assemblee, city government, including Jean Francois Tranche-la-Hausse, President of the section, and Baron Dupin (1767-1828) general secretary of the Seine. etc. Small v-shaped mouse nibble at bottom margin, else very good.
