GRACE COOLIDGE
(1879-1957) First Lady, wife of Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States. Scarce A.Ms.S. 1p. sm. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], an original poem by the first lady better known for her chic hospitality. Titled 'The Quest', it reads: '...Crossing the uplands of time, Skirting the borders of night, Scaling the face of the peak of dreams, We enter the regions of light. And hastening on, with eager intent, Arrive at the rainbow's end, And there recover the pot of gold, Buried deep in the heart of a friend'. Signed at conclusion. Little is known of Coolidge's poetry save for that published within her letters, but this particular poem was mentioned as one of her best by her daughter Lydia Coolidge Sayles during a speech made in 1998 at the JFK Center. Simply matted and framed, light toning, very good. Not examined out of frame.
