ANDREW JACKSON, JR.
(ca. 1809 - 1865) Adopted son of President Andrew Jackson with whom he owned a plantation and 51 slaves. Jackson also served as his father's secretary. Jackson helped manage the Hermitage but was a poor investor and following the president's death, he slowly slid into ruin. He died of tetanus as a POW at Fort Warren. A scarce presidential D.S. signed by Jackson as his father's secretary, 1p. small folio parchment, Washington, Feb. 20, 1837, a grant of fifty acres of land in Bronson, Michigan to one Charles Allen. Two vertical folds, else fine.
