KU KLUX KLAN HANGING BANNER
An incredibly rare relic from the Ku Klux Klan, a clearly handmade banner from the Klan's provincial group in Perry County, Ohio, likely stemming from the early 1900s. The banner, 36.5 in. square, cloth construction, shows a white field surrounded by a blue border, bearing the hand-painted red lettering 'PERRY KLAN...No. 115...PERRY COUNTY' at center. Some original pencil outlines remain present near some of the lettering, used when the banner was painted. The top edge had originally been nailed to a 51.5 in. wooden pole for hanging, though the pole has since become disconnected. The piece is very fragile and heavily worn, with light staining throughout and significant tearing at bottom-right, held together with tiny strips of archival tape. In need of restoration.
