ROBERT BARNWELL RHETT, JR.
(1828-1905) Son of South Carolina 'fire-eater' Robert Rhett. Editor of the secessionist 'Charleston Mercury' which proclaimed in an 'Extra' on Dec. 20, 1860: 'The UNION is DISSOLVED!'. Scarce partly-printed D.S., 6 x 2.75 in., [Charleston], Jan. 10, 1859, a receipt for a one-year subscription to the Charleston Mercury, signed by Rhett at bottom. Very good.
