ENOLA GAY AIRCRAFT RELIC
Very rare relic from the B-29 bomber, ENOLA GAY, which delivered the first atomic bomb used in war, on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The relic, is an approx. 0.5 inch piece of rubber, described as a 'wire clamp with insulation'. The relic is accompanied by a 1994 letter of provenance from a docent at the San Diego Aerospace Museum. The man explains that he was present during the overhaul of two of the Enola Gay's engines at which time a very small handful of parts were scrapped by a mechanic. These parts were given to the docent who further affirms that this wire clamp was among those parts. Clemons' collection and attachment to aviation is borne out in his 2017 obituary.
