MARK W. CLARK
(1896 - 1984) American general, commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of Kesselring. Signed commemorative envelope, 1p. oblong 12mo., providing news about the execution of Benito Mussolini and a printed quote from President Truman, stating in part: '...This is not the hour of final victory in Europe, but the hour draws near...' Clark signs at bottom in blue ink, next to an photo clipping of Mussolini. Fine, with Apr. 23, 1945 cancel.
