(1896 - 1984) American general commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of Kesselring. T.L.S. on Chief of Army Field Forces letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Fort Monroe, VA, Nov. 7, 1949, enclosing a message for publication to the president of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, stating 'Military personnel everywhere share…the wish to aid the unfortunate victims of Polio… [the disease] leaves in its wake despair, crippled bodies, and death [and] has assumed epidemic proportions over much of the world…' Sold with an S.P., 3.75 x 4.75 in. b/w, signature a tad light.
