KARL KAUFMANN
KARL KAUFMANN
(1900 - 1969) Nazi Gauleiter in Hamburg and the first Nazi leader to deport German Jews, in this instance to the Lódz Ghetto in Poland. T.L.S. on his official letterhead, 1p. large 4to., Hamburg, Oct. 15, 1940 to SA-Obergruppenfuhrer WILHELM BRUCKNER (1884-1954). Kaufmann writes Bruckner, who was serving as Hitler's Chief Adjutant, three days before Bruckner would be dismissed. Kaufmann discusses the case of Friedrich Wilhelm Petersen. In part: '...Petersen is a morbid troublemaker who seems to be incapacitated because of mental weakness., ,I arranged for the date in which the decision [by the prosecutor]...for the conservatorship determination of Petersen should be postponed for the time being...inform me which circumstances...speak in favor of a particularly benevolent examination of the matter...' Marginal file holes and a staple hole at top, some edge wear, still very good.
