KARL DONITZ
(1891 - 1980) German admiral who headed the U-Boat arm of the German Navy, later succeeded Hitler as Fuhrer after Hitler's suicide. T.L.S. on his postwar personal letterhead, 1p. oblong 8vo., Holstein, Sept. 29, 1962, to a researcher in German. Translated in part: 'The Marshal's Staff, of which you are enclosing a photo, was stolen from my luggage by the English when I was arrested in Flensberg…I will gladly fulfill your request for a photo…I have received a letter from Admiral Kummetz [Knight's Cross recipient OSKAR KUMMETZ] in the last few days, he's fine.' Vertical fold, else fine. Sold with two contemporary photographs of the mentioned baton, and one contemporary photograph of Donitz with Adolf Hitler.
