(1892 - 1949) American politician, Secretary of the Navy from 1944 to 1947. T.L.S. as Secretary of the Navy, 1p. 4to., Washington, [n.d.], presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Chief Pharmacist's Mate Jesse Clyde Hayes, thus authorizing him to wear the Combat 'V'. Forrestal signs at the conclusion. Fold at right edge, with discoloration thereat, else very good. Sold with Hayes' temporary citation for the same award, as well as another scan of said temporary citation. According to the documents, Hayes served aboard the U.S.S. Kidd off the coast of Okinawa, when the vessel was attacked by a suicide bombing on April 11th, 1945.
